Handing in Assignments

Hello children,

Today was a very dull day. The girls have been busy writing essays for their course. They were a bit quiet and I didn't get to out and play much.

They have to post their essays into a large brown locked box. I got to go on that trip it was fun to help post them.

I have just found out that next week I am going on holiday. The first week I will be going on a big trip in a truck. I am so excited I have never been in a truck before. Have you been in any big vehicles? I shall make sure I get in lots of photos for you. We are going up to the Caledonian Canal in Scotland and Nessie tells me we will go right past his home.

I must go pack! Speak soon

Out and about: Kohlberg - Metzingen - Neuffen

Today, I met Eveline. She is a trainee teacher at Schönbein- Realschule Metzingen (near Reutlingen) and lives in Kohlberg. Kohlberg is a tiny village near Metzingen, but it seems to be OK (it is very quiet though). When we came home, she introduced me to her flatmate Bruni and I was enchanted the moment I saw her. I think she likes me, too – what do you reckon? Just look at the photo. I like her a lot... In fact, she's the most beautiful rabbit I've ever seen. (And I've seen many rabbits in my life!)

Tomorrow, I'll go to school with Eveline. I'm looking forward to meeting the kids. Before, we'll have to prepare her lesson. She said I will be part of the English lesson, too! How exciting!

At school

It was quite cool at school (uuuh, that even rhymes). The kids liked me a lot (especially the girls). They couldn't believe I had really travelled all the way from Scotland! I knew all the words they learned in their English lesson, but I learned something else: In April, there's a BOYS' DAY. Boys can get an insight into "typical girls' professions", that sounds very interesting in my eyes.

In the staff room, I met nice teachers and saw their 'motivation glass'; unfortunately, it was empty, so no sweets for me...

Tomorrow, I'm going to meet another friend in Neuffen. Goodbye, Kohlberg!

The Week with Roland

Hi!
On this week I was with Roland. It was a very exciting week.
First Roland had a basketball contest in Pärnu.
After the contest we went to the Pärnu's Waterpark.
We slided down along the water pipes. It was so fast and cool.
Later on me and Roland went to the friend's house
and we drove a motorbike there.
On the next day we visited 5D cinema.
It was similar to 4D cinema but there were more effects in 5D cinema.
It was a really interesting experience.
Also we played Airsoft with Roland's friend. It was full of adrenaline.
And I even had a chance to hold an Airsoft gun. It was reallu heavy.
On the next day we went to Atlantis which is a computer centre.
There were lots of computer games.
It was fun too.
On Saturday we went to the cinem again. We saw a cool movie.
After the movie we went to the Roland's friend's house for the sleepover.
We did lots of fun things.
Unfortunately the school started again, our spring holiday was over.
I miss Scotland a lot,
bye!

Franz at the Science Centre!

Hello everyone,

On Thursday, Kirsten took me on a trip with some of the other trainee teachers to the Dundee Science Centre called Sensation.

Kirsten, Amanda and some of the other students have been studying an ICT (information and communications technology) module, where they have been looking at ways we can use technology in schools to enhance learning. Another group of trainee teachers like Kirsten and Amanda have been studying a science module where they have been looking at how to teach science effectively in schools.

The two groups of trainee teachers spent some time at the Science Centre, bringing their knowledge of science and technology together.

At the Science Centre, the students looked at ways in which they could use technology to engage the children when learning about science.

I spent the morning helping Kirsten and Amanda...

Here is a photograph of me inside a human nose with Amanda!

This is a photgraph of me helping Kirsten to use the buttons to move a robot. It was really fun!

Below is a photograph of me playing the reaction game. The game lasted 30 seconds and I had to watch carefully and push the correct red buttons when the light came on. The game tested to see how quickly I was able to find the correct button and press it. Kirsten wasn't very good at it!!

This is a photograph of me standing next to a skeleton. I helped Kirsten and some of the other students to complete a quiz, finding the correct parts of the body.

Below is a photograph of me inside a monster's mouth - I wasn't even scared!

At the end, Kirsten took me to play on the climbing frame.

I really enjoyed my day out at the Science Centre and I hope you enjoyed reading about it.
After the trip, I said goodbye to Kirsten and I am now going to spend some time with Amanda.
I wonder where she will take me...

Best wishes,

Franz

Eilidh participates in a meeting of the German department

Hello everyone!

Last week I visited the Realschule in Blaustein.

The teachers there have big plans for their pedagogical days which are appointed on the 27th and 28th of May this year.

The main topic will be the internal differentiation in the classrooms. I participated on the meeting of the German department, where all German teachers met to decide the focus they will work on during these two days. They agreed on orthography and were all willing to bring in material and prepare own material in teamwork.

I think that’s a great idea because I noticed that the proficiency level of the pupils concerning orthography varies a lot. Of course we also discussed the problem that if a teacher wants to advance weak pupils and therefore prepares a lot of material for practice, the pupils who are already able to write accurately are often unattended.

This shall be avoided and that’s why all the teachers meet in Schwäbisch Hall. They are going to create materials for each class on important orthography topics. These topics all include exercises with different levels of difficulty. In this way the stronger pupils are challenged while the weaker pupils have a chance to work on their problems and get advanced.

The German department plans to arrange fix phases for free studies when pupils are allowed to learn in their own learning speed.

I’m really sad that I can’t participate in these two days as well – the teachers promised they’d bring cake!

Wow!!!!!!! I went to see the St Patrick's Day Parade in Montreal!

I was so busy taking photographes that I forgot to take a picture of me at the parade! Oops! Their were so many people there!!! It's the biggest parade besides the New-York one. Do you like my photo of the irish dancers? The flag represents both english and french speakers in Montreal. I found it pretty neet! There were leprechauns everywhere!!! Everybody was in green.

A Week at Gregor's

On Monday me and my friend Gregor took an Estonian language retest. Later we played on his computer the ps3 system.

On Tuesday Gregor took me to handball practise, we had a great time and I tried to throw the ball into the goal but I missed, Gregor said that I should keep on practising.

On Wednesday I went sledging with Gregor, we had a lot of fun again. I also played on the ps3 system. Also his friend Toomas visited us, I will talk you about him later.

On Thursday we didn't do much, we just went sledging.

On Friday we watched a movie about "Friend-Ship". On Saturday we played some games with his very little brother.

And on Sunday I had to stay home because he went skiing and I didn't have any room on him, I was disappointed.

How are you doing there?

Greetings from Estonia again!

I had a wonderful week with my new friend Jessica. She took me twice to school of music, where she learns the flute and piano. Theory and music history lessons where very interesting, I learned a lot about music and specially Estonian music.

Also I had a great chance to meet two Jessica’s friends, Sissi and Hanna. Sissi’s dad is a famous singer in Estonia. He won Eurovision for Estonia ten years ago.

There is one thing that amazed me in Estonia, I have never seen so much snow in my life and I cannot remember, when was the last time I had to go out, when the temperature is -20C, it really froze my horns off.

Jessica is a great new friend and she looked after me very well. Thanks Jess !!!

Spring has arrived.

Spring has sprung in Scotland!

Bear as an artist

Dear everybody,

I´m the first of my seminar to take our bear on a trip to lovely Oberschwaben. Actually I think he more looks like a dog ... anyway...I am a teacher trainee at the Seminar in Reutlingen for secondary school. My subjects are English and Fine Art. I´m teaching at the Realschule Bad Waldsee and on my first days at the new school I took part in an art project. All pupils of our "Schulzentrum" from grade 8 (Gymnasium, Realschule, Haup-tschule, Förderschule) had the chance to participate in a workshop for three days. Our big topic was "Eat-Art". The workshops were run by artists as well as teachers. The students were supposed to work alone or together on one piece which will be exhibited in our local gallery for about four weeks. There is going to be a real opening of the show and in previous years some of the pieces were even sold.
