Maggie learns a new song

This week I have been busy learning a new song and a rhyme linked with the P1's topic Under the Sea.
I have been learning how to keep a steady beat. I found it hard at first, but the boys and girls kept me right. It was lots of fun singing and playing the different instruments.

Maggie's weekend trip

At the weekend Miss Chapman, the P1 teacher, took me on a special day out to Pitlochry.

We went to Pitlochry to see Swan Lake.  I enjoyed watching all the ballet dancers and think that when I grow up I would like to be a ballerina.

Next weekend one of the children from the P1 class will be taking me on a weekend adventure.  I can't wait!

Coco says hello to St. Thomas' Primary!

Last week we walked down to the Post Office and handed in a slip to collect Coco. He has come all the way from Carlogie Primary School in Carnoustie. We took him into our classroom and showed him around so now he knows where everything is. We have been studying Europe and we taught Coco a bit about the countries. Coco came to the library with us and found a book on rainforests. He told us some facts about the rainforest.

Next we played with a ball in the hall and then went to visit the nursery where we played a number card game and said hello to the nursery children. Coco says he has enjoyed his first week at our school!

Pancake day

I learnt how to make pancakes and even tried to toss a pancake. I enjoyed the pancake with sugar and lemon.

Maggie at Cauldeen Primary School

Hi my name is Maggie and I arrived at Cauldeen Primary School in Inverness last week.  I have spent the week settling into the P1 class.  Nessie was still here and showed me around the school.  I really enjoyed playing hide and seek with Nessie and the children, in the playground.

Once Nessie left to go on a little trip to Dundee University, the children showed me the ropes at lunch.  The children had a packed lunch but I went for a tasty school lunch of haggis, neeps and tatties.  Yum yum.

Scotty the Rainforest Explorer

This week, Scotty has really enjoyed learning about living in the Rainforest. We have told him all the things we have been learning before he arrived and he is catching up with us very quickly! This week we were looking at the differences between rainforest homes and the homes we live in. The three main differences we thought of were:
1. Rainforest houses are made of sticks and leaves - ours are made of bricks and stone.
2. Rainforest houses are often built up on stilts - this is to save them from any flooding and also to stop animals coming in!
3. We have electricity that allows us to have things like lights, cookers, TV, xbox and DS!

Scotty loves the colourful wall display we have made in our classroom.

Next week, Scotty is going to come to PE with us - he is really looking forward to it!

Scotty visits Carnoustie

Hello we are a Primary 2/3 class in Carnoustie and we were very excited when we received a parcel in the post!
Inside we found Scotty the West Highland Terrier...he is very cute. He was sent to us by boys in girls up in Keith - this is in the North of Scotland, we found it on a map.
Scotty has settled in well to our classroom and you will see from the photo he especially likes reading - he thought it was his family in this story!!

I wonder what he'll get up to next week?.......

Winston in Leicestershire

We were very excited when we opened the parcel and discovered Winston the hedgehog inside.  He is really looking forward to spending time getting to know us all.  We have made him a diary where we are also sticking photos of his adventures.  We are going to make pancakes tomorrow and will be deciding which topping we like best!

At the seminar in Reutlingen

last week I was watching an assessment because
the trainee teachers had their first assessment of the second state exam.

For the past seven months they’ve attended school and civil service law. The lecture took part every second Wednesday from half past two till six o’ clock. They got to know the legal background of their future job.

For the exam they had to learn lots of clauses by heart. For example, they needed to know when pupils get a suspension from school or how teachers have to behave. They also learned about the duty of supervision and what happens when they breach this duty.

The assessment was an oral exam that lasted 20 minutes.

In the exam the trainee teachers got an example case and had to comment on it or they had to solve a problem which occurred in the case.

Finally, the first exam is over and the trainee teachers can concentrate on their projects at school they have to bring to completion.

My week in Mengen

Hey guys!

I spent a wonderful week in Mengen which is a small town in the middle of nowhere. I got to know the pupils of grade 6 and we had a lot of fun together.

I was allowed to join the English lessons and the pupils informed me about their favourite free time activities during a TBLL lesson. The pupils were friendly and open-minded and they wanted to know more about me. So I told them about me as well.

On Wednesday, we even went to a climbing park in Bad Waldsee together. In the beginning I was really afraid because we had to climb very high through the treetops. But then there was a nice guy who explained everything to us. He gave us helmets and instructed us how to use the ropes. After that I felt much better. And in the end we had sooooooooooooo much fun – although it was raining very heavily. We were all wet and tired, but the day was awesome.

But this wasn’t the only thing I did in Mengen. On Friday, we spent one night at school. We were playing funny games and after making our own popcorn, we were watching a film. The pupils were divided into two classrooms. I was sleeping in the girls’ classroom. I made many new friends there. “Giri” is a very nice German giraffe for example. After a very long night, we were having breakfast at school.

This was a week full of new experiences and nice people…but the journey will go on!!!!
